Our Summer Associate Program is offered primarily in our Irvine, San Diego and San Francisco offices to students who have completed their second year of law school. Summer Associates are mentored by some of the finest IP lawyers in the nation. Each associate is assigned a Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear partner mentor and host associate to help involve them in the practice of law.

Summer Associates are encouraged to take responsibility in as many of the following practice areas as possible: IP litigation and other types of adversarial proceedings; domestic and foreign patents, trademarks and copyrights; and licensing and business transactions. Projects assigned to Summer Associates are coordinated to ensure that each associate is exposed to a variety of projects during the summer.

Most of our new associates come from the Summer Associate Program. Therefore, the Program seeks to immerse students in all aspects of the firm’s culture. Client meetings, weekly educational lunches and contact with a variety of partners and associates provide Summer Associates valuable insight into the culture of the firm. In addition, Summer Associates participate in numerous social activities throughout the summer, which allow them to meet and interact with the firm’s lawyers on an informal basis. Such activities include professional sporting events, beach parties, boat trips, a day at Disneyland and other activities in and around Southern California.
