Orange County Business Journal Recognizes Knobbe Martens Partners Steve Jensen and Joseph Re as Businesspeople of the Year

The Orange County Business Journal honored Knobbe Martens partners Joseph Re and Steve Jensen as Orange County Businesspeople of the Year for their work on behalf of Irvine, California-based medical device company Masimo, Corp.

Among other achievements, the pair were recognized for leading a team from the firm that secured a favorable ruling for Masimo from the U.S. International Trade Commission that has resulted in an import ban on certain Apple Watches as part of an ongoing patent dispute with Apple, Inc. Emphasizing the importance of the win, Jensen said, “We’re fighting a very large company with very endless resources to fight with lawyers,” and maintained that “every day” the legal matchup can feel like David versus Goliath.

Jensen also described he, Re and the Knobbe Martens team’s longstanding record of securing legal victories for Masimo – wins he believes have ultimately led to positive outcomes outside of the courtroom. Reflecting on a prior case against medical device company Nellcor, now part of Medtronic, Jensen said, “I would argue that our win there has saved many thousands of lives, prevented blindness in many thousands of babies, and saved billions of healthcare dollars, and led to further innovations from Masimo that no other company has matched.”
